The words below are written by Cynthia Morton as an introduction on how to use this workbook:
"I created this workbook to assist anyone struggling with addiction or abuse issues in learning more about themselves and their emotional patterns. However if participants are currently abusing substances they will not gain optimum results – it is advised that to remain abstinent whilst undertaking this process will provide the most personal empowerment and reward.
These 20 self study workshops can be used individually or in a group format. If you are choosing to work alone it is suggested that you let someone close to you, or your counselor/therapist know what you are about to undertake. It has been observed that those who sound out, and de-brief with another whilst working through this process gain the most clarity and peace of mind.
It is also recommended that you take your time and don't rush yourself through this process, so that you allow yourself time to emotionally digest and contemplate each workshop and the workouts within it.
The Emotional Fitness Foundation consistently receives letters from medical professionals working with clients in recovery stating that the information within this workbook has accelerated their client's recovery and become a powerful resource in self understanding.
If you are working with a group it is advised that each workshop follows the recommended code of conduct outlined in the beginning of this workbook. And it is also suggested that the chosen facilitator has experience in working within this field and therefore is able to remain supportive and patient with each participant.
It is suggested with each workout that you only complete what is comfortable for you. It is important not to make yourself or another wrong if any exercise feels too confronting. This is an indicator that the subject matter is best Resources
investigated with a medical professional if you feel too overwhelmed to complete any of the exercises.
Please remember that the Emotional Fitness workshops compliment professional therapy, as Dr Timothy Sharp concurs in the following pages "It is not a replacement but a helpful resource to support those choosing to change destructive patterns". While every care has been taken in researching and compiling the information in this workbook, it is in no way intended to replace professional advice and counseling.
If you are completing any workshop as a group best results have been achieved by the group sitting in a circle facing each other." To order please visit "how to order".
